258/31 STRANGE, Louisa290 Main Street, BallaratLouisa STRANGE was the third child of Edmund and Lucy (MARTIN), and was born at Dalton's Flat, Ballarat on 5 April 1863. She never married, so as a single woman, earning a living was a necessity.
From approximately 1890 to 1921, she operated a fruit and greengrocer shop on the west side of Main Road, between Barkly and Eureka Streets. The area is a parkland today. Louisa died on 26 August 1950 at the age of 87. She left an estate of over five hundred pounds to two of her nephews. She requested she be buried in her parents' grave in the Ballarat New Cemetery.
